Leadership Assessments

Rigorous. Evidence-based. Meaningful.

Assessment debrief

Our assessment approach

At Synact, our assessment work is guided by a commitment to scientific integrity, theoretical clarity, and practical relevance.

We draw on tools developed through world-leading research, including the Identity Leadership Inventory (ILI) and the TEXL assessment platform, and use these to inform leadership development, program evaluation, and organisational transformation.

What is the Identity Leadership Inventory (IL)

The Identity Leadership Inventory (ILI) is a research-based tool developed by Steffens et al. (2014) to assess a leader’s ability to create, advance, represent, and embed a shared sense of “us” — the essence of identity leadership.

It is now used in over 20 countries as part of the Global Identity Leadership Development (GILD) project, coordinated by Goethe University Frankfurt.

Identity leadership as perceived by employees is uniquely related to important indicators of leadership effectiveness including employees’ relationship to their team (identification and perceived team support), well-being (job satisfaction and reduced burnout), and performance (citizenship and innovative behaviour at work).

How we use assessments

We draw on decades of applied research in social and organisational psychology to ensure that our assessments are not only scientifically robust but also practically useful. Our partnerships with academic institutions and global research initiatives mean we use tools that are validated, peer-reviewed, and continually evolving.

We use assessments to:

  • Evaluate the impact of leadership development programs (such as 5R)

  • Inform coaching and reflective practice for leaders

  • Guide organisational and cultural transformation

  • Support diagnostic and advisory engagements

Our approach ensures that assessment data is meaningfully integrated into leadership development and organisational practice, supporting reflective insight, informed decision-making, and sustained capability development.

FAQs

  • We offer a range of leadership and organisational assessments, including social identity leadership diagnostics such as the Identity Leadership Inventory and instruments delivered through TEXL. Selection depends on your goals, whether evaluating program impact, informing leader development, or guiding strategic change.

  • Our tools are grounded in decades of research in social and organisational psychology. We prioritise scientifically validated measures developed by academic collaborators and avoid proprietary black-box assessments. Our distinction lies in combining academic rigour with practical insight to ensure data leads to meaningful action.

  • We begin by understanding your context, needs, and objectives. From there, we recommend the most appropriate tools, configure the delivery (for example, baseline and post, 360°, team-based), and guide data collection, analysis, and interpretation. We then support you in translating insights into action through coaching, workshops, or strategy sessions.

  • We use platforms like TEXL that meet the highest standards of ethical research practice and data protection. All data is securely stored, de-identified where appropriate, and reported in a way that preserves confidentiality. We comply with local privacy laws and university-based ethics protocols when relevant.

  • Yes. We can customise assessments by adjusting item wording, adding organisation-specific questions, or tailoring reporting formats to align with your leadership frameworks, language, and strategy.
